Hope all the mothers were honored last Sunday. At First Methodist the children sang "Happy Mother's Day" as they paraded up and down the aisles. Sherry Bush was their song leader. Then the minister, Dr. John Carpenter, presented each child with a Mother's Day coloring book in which to draw their own mother. Young artists at work!
Graduations are in vogue now. The 20 young graduates of pre-school at First Methodist will hold their graduation on May 17 at 6 p.m. in the sanctuary. Emily Bass is their resourceful director along with all the teachers and aides. The public is invited.
The DCHS graduation is this Friday, May 18 at 7 p.m. Their baccalaureate service was held last Sunday evening at the First Baptist Church. The six graduates at First Methodist from DCHS will be honored at an Ice Cream Social this Sunday evening at 6 p.m.
With all these graduations, summer break is just around the corner. It was interesting to see all the young people working at KFC and Taco Bell recently. Every time I pass by, the drive-in line is long.
Congratulations to Hazel Hibdon who celebrated her 97th birthday recently. She was honored last weekend at her home with around 40 children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren present. She holds the outstanding honor of having attended 25 high school and college graduations of her family. Sounds like she believes in eduation. Her children are Joyce Mullinax (a longtime friend of mine), Jerry, Fred and John (known as J.L.) Happy Birthday, Mrs. Hibdon.
Did you all see the story of excessive cigarette butts scattered on grass and the streets in Nashville? It was on Channel 2 Sunday evening. Just look around when you're out shopping and observe these in our small town. Throwing them down is rude and disrespectful to our community.
Come on down to town this Saturday, from noon to 5 p.m. It is "Shutting Down Main Street" which the Living Word Fellowship is sponsoring. There will be music and free hotdogs and drinks. Check it out.
In closing, thank the Lord, every day and be thankful for what we have and who we are. Amen.
The Amen Corner
Shutting down Main Street gospel event is this Saturday
