Received a call from Joanna Moore last week telling me that her son, Kenneth and his wife Hazel, were in Paris recently and encounted Rita and Dr. Don Cripps. They were staying at the same hotel and noticed them on the elevator. Neither Kenneth nor Dr. Cripps recognized each other. I think Rita got suspicious and thought it was Kenneth. The next time they met, they confirmed their suspicion.
I remember one time when we were in Jerusalem, I encountered a Scarritt College professor of mine in the dining room. He did remember me (or said he did).
Get-well wishes to John Loeb, father-in-law of Betty Turner Loeb, in Guntersville, Alabama. He is now in a nursing home there.
A great big thanks to Caney Fork Electric for hosting their Appreciation Day last Wednesday. The BBQ plate was plentiful with popcorn and other treats. Also something for the children with the jumping tent and pictures made. Saw Vickie King, a great PPR person, with Caney Fork and another employee who did the insulation of a rent house of mine. A good agency to have.
The Leadership Dekalb Class of 2012 will hold their graduation on June 5 at 6 p.m. at the 303 building on the square. Call the Chamber of Commerce for dinner reservations.
Didn't make it to the Old Timers Day last week but heard everything was great. One reason that I can't make all the town events is that I'm moving into my parents house, hopefully in June. This is hard to believe but I put the pencil to it and I have moved 25 times in my life. I have a list, if you question this. Everytime I moved when I was single, my dad would say, "Shirley, this is the last time I'm moving you!” My problem is that I have too much furniture and stuff, in this big Victorian farmhouse to squeeze into my parents’ home. Check my ad out in the yard sale section.
I did find time to attend an engagement party in Gainesboro last Saturday. The young girl was a pretty young redhead when we were there in the 80s and I gave her piano lessons. Now she is a college graduate and working as a city planner in San Antonio. Her parents operate a luncheon place in their home overlooking the quaint town of Gainesboro. Got so many hugs. I think those sweet people there think I'm God's wife as they still remember our pastorate years there. I've done two eulogies there.
They had my husband down so guess I was next in line. I did manage to spend a brief visit with one of my friends there who has recently undergone cancer surgery. Patsy Judkins, a survivor, was gracious enough to give her a call with some optimistic suggestions and hope. Thanks, Patsy!
Pet peeve time! I've mentioned this before but one of my pet peeves is people chomping their chewing gum in public, especially church. In one of our churches, we had a choir member who could chew her gum in tempo with the music. Noticed a graduate was reprimanded for her chewing gum.
Hope everyone had a safe and pleasant Memorial Day. Our family had a cook-out.
A recent message from a friend via e-mail. "Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Love the ones who don't, just because you can. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. God never said life would be easy. He just promised it would be worth it." Amen.
