Remembing the tragedy of 9/11 ten years ago was presented on every TV station last weekend. As the story was retold, families of the victims were involved in the presentations. I made several observations on Saturday at the 93 Flight Memorial in Pennsylvania.
During the chaplain's prayer, several did not bow their heads. My second observation was of dignified park rangers -- except a female ranger -- who made a big gesture chewing her gum.(That is one of my pet peeves, especially in church.) Joe Biden, our vice president, made one of the best speeches during this special occasion.
I was proud that our town observed this event at our courthouse on Sunday afternoon. It was good to see four ministers participating together in this commemoration service. Scripture was read and hymns were sung accompanied by a talented pianist, Susan Hinton.Perhaps bringing a smile to the audience was the Methodist Pre-School children's singing. As someone said, "the terrorists brought down our walls but not America." Amen to that!
Speaking of New York, those going on the Sr. Citizen trip there in December will get to see the 9/11 new Trade Center. If you would like to take this exciting trip, call Wanda Poss at the Sr. Center at 597-7575.
Wanda is one of the top tour guides on these Diamond Tours. She knows where we're going, and is real knowledgable about the sites in the area, gives everyone time to be ready and find good places to dine. I've been on two tours with Wanda and enjoyed every day of the tours.
I had a nostaligic experience last Saturday as I attended the estate sale of the late Ina Mae and Paul Hendrixson. It was good to see their family, which included Paulette and Patricia whom I had in Sunday School, and their children.
The Hendrixsons were "salt of the earth" folk, always helping others.
Get-well wishes to Lillie Vaughn, Phyllis Bennett, Hilda Meyers and Jeanette France who was at church Sunday on her trusty cane.
In closing, today is the oldest you've ever been, yet the youngest you'll every be SO, ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS.
Amen.
