Did you attend the state fair?

Fall is in the air with these cool mornings and evenings.  Are we ready?
Dr. Atnip told me the other day that he had put away his white summer clothes. Don't know where this message came from, Emily Post or Martha Stewart, but my mother always reminded me of this tradition the day after Labor Day.  They do look blah-looking as the weather is cooler.
Calling all members of the ‘54 Class Reunion. Very few reservations came in so the reunion has been cancelled. I've talked to several who want to combine the classes of '53 and '55 at a later date. Call Bill Hendrixson, our class president, and pass these suggestions on to him.
Sympathy to the family of Marie Puckett Webb and Evelyn Young. Also get-well wishes to Janis Murphy who has been battling a summer-time pneumonia, Elizabeth Turney, Joanna Moore, John Loeb, Jane Cantrell, Mary Snow, Betty Bailiff, Eddie Sutton and Hoyte Odom.
Sunday was Grandparents Day. Gail Bishop presented the children's message and gave each child a ribbon for their grandparent in the First Methodist Church. Gail, a minister's widow, has several grandchildren.
Did any of you watch the Democratic Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina last week?  Michelle Obama and Bill Clinton stole the show.
Belated happy birthday to Lena Rhody, a very nice lady and a fried pie expert.
Did anyone in our neck of the woods attend the State Fair in Nashville last weekend?  When I lived in Nashvillle, I went every year.  A nice gentleman who worked for Mayor Briley always gave me gate tickets.
One year, my parents came down and we went. Later that evening after we arrived home, we could see a glow in the sky.  I had an apartment on the second floor, so our vision was good across the city.  Yep, it was the State Fair on fire. Don't remember the year.
Folk are still squeezing in vacation time.  Becky Roberts, the secretary at First Methodist and her friend, Suzanne Prater left on Aug. 24 to attend Becky's family reunion in Boyne City, Michigan.  It is 50-miles from the Mackinaw Bridge, right on Lake Charlevoix which was voted the second most beautiful lake in America according to GMA (Good Morning America.) They visited Becky's daughter, Lindsay and other family and friends.
I lost a very good minister friend about two weeks ago. I didn't know about it until after the funeral. I worked with Rev. Fred Harper at Donelson Heights in Nashville for about three years.  He had a set of beautiful, little blonde-headed twins, Laurie and Lisa, and they sang with John Anderson when they were small. The entire Harper family was musical.
We have another hometown boy who has written a book.  Bill Lassiter has had “The Lonesome Goose” published and will be in town sometime this month to autograph, probably at Webb's Drug Store, where he and other young people hung out during their high school days.
Later birthday wishes to Brenda Arledge, John Arledge, Freda Cantrell at the Webb House, Kim Luton, Betty Martin in Gainesboro, Dewain Hendrixson, Wendell Bailiff, Ron Dobbs, Kelsey Evins, Wayne Hubbs and Alan Webb. Anniversary wishes this month to Dr. Steve and Martha Cooper, Richard and Patsy Judkins, Hoyte and Joann Odom, Dewain and Carol Hendrixson and Bob and Anne Morse.
