The Amen Corner
Autumn ushered in last weekend

Yes, fall began last Saturday.  And sweater weather was with us. Time to get out those jackets and sweaters, especially for the children early in the mornings and evenings.
The Senior Angels met on Sept. 17 with a double feature program. A friend from Pleasant Hill (Cumberland County) did a historical monologue of an early Methodist preacher in the Upper Cumberland area.  Then, Dr. Will Sherwood presented facts and good reasons to take the flu shot beginning in October.  Becky Davis and her sister Barbara were hostesses.  The Granville trip on Oct. 8 was discussed. Several indicated an interest in going to their festival on that day.
Keep in mind the Heartfelt Homemade Bazaar on Nov. 2 at the Methodist Fellowship Building.  Any craftsmen who are interested in setting up a table  on that day should contact Becky at the church, 597-4961 for details or me at  597-4000.  All work should be homemade.
Larry and Pat Tatum have returned from a wonderful trip and cruise to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.  They flew to Seattle and rented a car to tour places like Columbia Gorge, Mt. Hood and Fruit Loop where different orchards of fruit are grown. Then they boarded the cruise ship Highland Westerdam for a trip to Alaska. Pat said the glaciers which were old were beautiful and breathtaking. The cruise ship entertainment and food were also great. Happy anniversary to a lovely couple!
I snuck away for an R&R trip to Destin last week with friends Elaine from Gainesboro and Owene from Monterey. Relaxing at the beach, eating seafood, swimming in the pools and shopping consumed our leisure time.  We met a group of little ol' ladies from Knoxville who were together in Concord Baptist Church there and  a card playing group  on the beach.  They were delightful to meet.
While we were dining at the Harbor Village one evening an airplane came flying down toward where we were eating. I had some anxiety from 9/11 about this until another plane appeared and then a smaller plane.  They started doing stunts with smoke following them. Everyone was fascinated with this air show for about 30 minutes.
Here's our humor for the week:  I know when people see a cat's litter box in someone's house, they always ask, "Oh, have you got a cat?”  Just once, someone should say, "No, it's for company."  (Thought all cat lovers would love this.)
Employment application blanks always ask "Who is to be notified in case of an emergency.”  I think you should write 'A Good Doctor.'
Thoreau says: “Be not simply good but good for something.”
Amen.
