Belated Happy Father's Day to all the good fathers out there and the others who are trying to be better fathers. My father, known as "Bud," was a good father to my sister and me. He wasn't perfect but he was a very loving father and good provider. When Charlotte and I, as teenagers, were going out anywhere, he would always ask if we needed any money. In DeKalb County, he worked on highway construction.
Then he drove for Trailways for over 30 years and earned many safety awards for his safe-driving career.
Even after he retired, he worked for our great nephew, Randy Paris, at the local laundermat.
Congratulations to Doyle Smith, a WWII veteran and educator, who made the chartered US Airways flight to Washington, D.C., in May. He along with 98 other WWII veterans toured the memorials, Arlington National Cemetery and Tomb of Unknown Soldier. His son, Al, from Huntsville, Ala., accompanied him.
Also congratulations to Patricia Zornow, who received the Social Holiness Award for her leadership in the Smithville Food Pantry program at the Methodist Church Annual Conference at Brentwood Church in Nashville last week. Accompanying her to the service and dinner were Sherry Bush, Betty Jo and Holly Forkner, Donna and Terry Gibson, Anne and Bob Morse, Wayne Hubbs, Marc and Nancy Palamera and Dr. John and Kathy Carpenter. My husband, Rev. Cliff Ingram, received this award in 2004.
I also attended Annual Conference on Tuesday for the memorial service and retirees’ luncheon.
I rode down to Brentwood with Rev. Tommy and Betty Davis. Also belated birthday greetings to Betty whose birthday was this day. It was good to see ol' minister friends there.
Robin and Kristie Driver were the guests of John and Lynn Bush at Fleetwood Mac Concert at the Phillips Arena in Atlanta last week. John and Robin were high school friends and the son of Sherry Bush.
Welcome back to Dr. John and Kathy Carpenter who took a vacation break the previous Sunday. Rev. Randall Ganues, former minister here, supplied the pulpit that Sunday.
If you've been looking for Bea's Sew Fabulous Consignment Shop, they have moved to the former Piggly Wiggly building. It's worth browsing by to see their spacious display of clothes, furniture, and other good buys.
Hope everyone saw that gorgeous big moon last weekend! It was fabulous and a historic moon as being so close to earth!
It's obvious that the Jamboree is getting ready to be here on July 5 with the stage up on the east side of the courthouse and the electrical units on the poles. I was involved in the first one here in 1972 when the late Berry Williams came down to the CEP office where I was manager and shared his vision of this event with me and wanted my assistance. Then Congressman Joe L. Evins confirmed this great undertaking with me. I was hooked! They added that people would come from all over the world. And they have! Great publicity for our small town!
Added to the June birthday list is Macon Judkins, a great lady.
Ethan Absher from Madison visited his grandparents, Charlotte and Laird Barnard, last weekend. He came to attend Bible School but also got to go boating with his uncle Robin, Kristie Driver and Ashton. Also visiting us were his mother, Wendy and Eli.
Get-well wishes to Jeanette France, Fay James, Ruth Dobbs, Lillian Rice and Charmaine Mitchell.
Amen.

Full moon, Jamboree ready
