Autumn (fall) is ushered in this week, Sept. 23.  Get those sweaters ouf of the mothballs. Cool weather is on the way!
Did you know that this is the Chinese year of money?
October has 5 Sundays, 5 Mondays and 5 Saturdays.  This happens every 823 years, so enjoy it now.
How many of you recognized young George Oliver's pix in last week's paper?  I remember George coming in Webb's Drug Store when he visited the Webbs.  Glad George and his lovely wife, Rebecca, decided to make Smithville their home.
Most people have taken their vacation this year, especially if they have school-age children.  But not the Colwells.  Frank and Mary departed from here on Aug. 27 and picked up his brother, Felty and Sarah in Scottsville, Kentucky.  They travelled through Missouri and Nebraska ,heading to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where they observed the Tetons.  While staying at Jackson Hole, they saw Old Faithful blow every 90 minutes, as well as other geysers in Yellowstone National Park. They also saw lots of elk and buffalo.
Then they headed to Salt Lake City and heard the Mormon Tabernacle choir at the conference center where their religious program is televised.  Not being Mormon, they couldn't tour the Tabernacle (Cathedral.)  They saw the Bryce and Zion Canyons in Cedar City, Utah.  They reached their final destination, the Grand Canyon, later that week and stayed at the Lodge there.  No, Frank didn't ride a mule down in the canyon.  (Maybe next time!)  They toured the Lorelle Chapel in Santa Fe where the noted spiral staircase is a mystery.  Nearby, was the San Miguel Mission Church, the oldest church in America.  They arrived home after 16 days and 5115 miles out west.  Yes, they used their GPS.  IFor anyone traveling, my advice is, "Go while you can."  The day may come when you are unable to go, for one reason or another!
Speaking of traveling, some seats are still available on the trip to New York City in December.  Call Wanda Poss at the Sr. Citizen Center today, 597-7575. (Like I said, go while you can.)
Get-well wishes to Jaunita Loring Gilbert in Crossville, also Sarah Brown who was at church Sunday, Jeanette France  and Fay James.
Consignors are invited to peddle their crafty items at the Methodist Fall Craft Bazaar on Nov. 4.  Call me if interested, 597-4000.
