Where did that wonderful summer go? I had great plans for summer projects and will have to rush them up. Wish school would start after Labor Day instead of so early.
I mentioned the purpose of yard sales last week. One perk is meeting nice people like Sandy and Jim League and many others.
Belated-birthday wishes to Katherine Pack who was honored with a birthday party at the courthouse last week. First week of birthday folks are Ethan Absher, Mary Colwell, Erin Colwell, Heather Theriaque, Susan Cripps, Denton Colwell, and Lowell Robinson.
Anniversary wishes to Bob and Jeanenne Pettis, Westley and Carole James and Tom and Marie Hill. Get-well wishes go to John Loeb.
Sympathy to the family of Beulah Hendrixson who died last week. She worked with my mother many years at Fuston's 5&10 Store. A nice lady!
I didn't play hooky last Sunday, since it was my third Sunday not being at my home church. I was invited to speak (not preach) at Peeled Chestnut UMC last Sunday. It was a triple header for me since I also played the piano and did the children's message. There are some nice people there. I knew one lady, Talitha Looney, who is on the lunchroom staff at Smithville Elementary School and Rose Daniels, who went to school with my sister. Mike Holman led the singing.
The local stores were buzzing last weekend with parents and high school students shopping for school supplies. They were also taking advantage of a tax free weekend.
Smithville Elementary lunchroom was filled with many, many kindergarten students and parents on Monday evening for registration.
Dr. John Carpenter of First United Methodist preached on the important roles of teachers last Sunday. He also recognized present teachers and former teachers and administrators.
Adrian Carden, granddaughter of Rev. Leland Carden of Lewisburg, visited Betty Bailiff last week. Adrian remembered Betty when Rev. Carden was pastor here.
Sympathy to Paul Dillen in the death of his sister in Florida. He and his wife Rose (Colwell) went down there for the funeral and to take care of the sister's home.
Becky Davis flew to Ohio for her 50th high school class reunion last week. She was the overnight guest of her cousin in Columbus, then drove to Shelby, Ohio, for the reunion.A dinner and greeting on Friday and a brunch on Saturday plus a dinner that evening consisted of a full weekend. Becky also visited with her brother and sister in law while in the area.
A closing thought: "As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same." Marianne Williamson.
Amen.
