The Amen Corner
Amazing discovery

Ellie Griggs called and invited me to their Bright Hill UMC's Homecoming, last Sunday, so I went. There was a good crowd from First Methodist along with Dr. John Carpenter, Kathy and their family attending. The food was bountiful, and more than 75 attended.
According to W.J. Poss, a longtime member, the church land was donated or bought from the Paris and Will Moore families. It is a great small church with good fellowship. More history on this church later.
Speaking of churches, most Christian churches will observe Promotion Sunday this coming Sunday. It is a time when children are promoted to an upper group and perfect attendance is recognized.
Another date on the August calendar is the county Democratic meeting on Aug. 24 at the fairgrounds in Alexandria at 10 a.m.
Also, Bright Hill UMC will be having their Fall Bazaar and Craft Fair on Oct. 12 from 8 a.m.- 8 p.m. Vendors should sign up by calling Ellie at 215-7615.
I made an amazing discovery last week. To motivate school children to go to bed early, put a book or small toy under their pillow each night. Their curiosity kicks in and they go to bed with great anticipation of what's under their pillow. Better than the tooth fairy!
Closing thought: "Wisdom is knowledge with gray hair."
