The Amen Corner
Health Fair a big success

The Health Fair at the Family Medical Center last Saturday was a huge success with informative vendors and good attendance. I got my flu shot and had my cholesterol checked. Glad to see DeKalb Countains interested n their health.
Other October events are, Bright  Hill Methodist Church are hosting their craft sale and bazaar this Saturday from 9-2p.m. This church is small but real active. Another event is Standing Stone Day in Monterey, vendors line the town street, and a passenger train comes up from Nashville. Rides in the railroad car are available. The train goes up about 10 miles and passengers can view a live battle staged there and then return to downtown Monterey. I usually go and take a small child to have this experience.
This is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Women are urged to get a mammogram.
Danny France, who was injured in a motorcycle accident in New Mexico, testified about his incident at First Methodist Church Sunday. He spoke of how he was hit in his head with hail and wrecked his motorcycle with his wife, Debbie behind. Miracously, two men came by and got them to the hospital. There he was treated with the most the utmost care by strangers. He was amazed at the care he recieved, and how people reacted and cared for them. He admitted that he survived this accident due to being surrounded by angels.
My uncle and wife, Jewel and Irene Lockhart visited my sister and me friday. His son and wife, Larry and Donna, chauffeured them for a visit. All live in Nashville. I am still honored by being invited to churches which we have attended. I was invited to Woodland Church in Crossville last Saturday for their 60th anniversary. Before the church celebration, I visited Juanita and Dean Gilbert in their Crossville home. She has been in bad health but is looking perky. I worked with Juanita at Webb’s Drug Store many years ago. Food and fellowship abounded with a program afterwards. It was good to see old friends.
Next week is the school’s fall break, and vacations are being planned. Closing thought: “Good friends are like angels.” You don’t have to see them to know they are there.”
Amen.
