The Amen Corner
Weather versus local activities

Did someone say we are headed for global warming? This extreme cold weather seems to have a different theory. Brr! I arise every morning to check the weather and schools information, since I am a substitute teacher in this county. One morning after I had taken my great niece and nephew to Smithville Elementary School, the flakes started falling. They got bigger and bigger. Panic! So the family decision was to go early and bring them home. I try to avoid slick roads so I got their father, Derek, to go in his four wheel drive car and pick them up. The office staff there was very cooperative. We checked them out and one came up crying, because he didn't want to leave school. By the time we got them safely home, the snow had quit and the sun was shining.  Mr. Willoughby must have known this winter quirk or Mother Nature was pulling one of her tricks.
I'm real excited and looking forward to the Children's Etiquette Workshop beginning next Saturday morning, 10-11:15 a.m. at the Methodist Fellowship Building. Registration will be in the foyer with a snack to start the morning. Jen Sherwood, a multi-talented lady, will get their happy voices going for some fun singing. Call Becky at 597-4961 to register your
child ages five-12 and also if a parent or other family member want to assist. We hope that these children will develop some self esteem.
Get-well wishes to Dr. Scott Little, Hoyte Odom and Faye Iverlett.  Sympathy to the family of John Carpenter.  His wife Karen is owner and manager of Sundance. Also sympathy remembrance to Larry Tatum and family in the death of his sister in West Tenn. Also to the family of Rev. Billy Lassiter who lived in Guild, near Chattanoga. Billy was a classmate
of mine and many others from first grade through high school.  He had recently written a book. Sympathy is also extended to the family of Mattie Jo McGinnis.
