When fall comes every year, I remember living on our Cumberland County 38-acre farm. There were two large maple trees in the front yard. It was my job to rake those leaves. I did not enjoy this task. I had rather be in the house reading a book or doing some freelance writing or anything but raking those dry leaves.
Finally my husband had mercy on me and brought an old bedspread and helped me shovel the leaves in it and drag them down to the garden. Needless to say, I don't miss that aspect of that beautiful farm.
It seems several families have taken advantage of the school fall break.
The Pafford family consisting of Mark, Beth (a school teacher), Laura, Ben, Max and Robin, plus a friend, Katy England, spent several days camping at Cumberland Mt. State Park in Crossville. Their days were spent hiking and enjoying the beautiful scenery on the mountain. They even hiked up Black Mountain.
Jim, J.J. (hair stylist), Lane and Tanner, spent a week at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. They would tour a different section there every day. One day they visited the Water Park plus some pool swimming.
The Judkins family spent a week at Destin, Florida. This included Patsy and Richard, Jeremy and Tammy, Madison and Dylan plus Bryan and Janet England and Barry Phillips. They spent their days at the beach, played golf, swimming and sight seeing. They were sporting tans at church Sunday.
We'll get other family vacations next week.
Sympathy is extended to the family of Barbara Colvert, wife of Bobby Colvert. I remember them working at Colvert's Lake many years ago and then running a store recently on the Sparta Highway.
Get-well wishes to Pat Paris (now in the nursing home for respite care), Randy Paris, her son, recuperating from a ladder accident, Hilda Meyers, Jeanette Dodson, Melford Smith and others in the nursing home.

Halloween is a week and half away. I've painted my pumpkin instead of carving it out. I plan to scoop out the pulp and make pumpkin pie or cookies with it.
Halloween Jokes: What is a pumpkin's favorite sport? Answer: Squash
Why do Jack-O-Lanterns have stupid smiles on their faces? Answer: You would have a stupid smile, too, if you just had all your brains scooped out.
Keep a smile on your face and a song in your heart. Amen.
