The Amen Corner
Childrens Etiquette Workshop a success

It was another busy week with all the activities, local and national. I watched and listened to the President's State of the Union Address. I always think it's interesting to see the inter-relationships among the legislators. The appalause was strong and long. One observation was Col. Ramsburg, who was seated next to Michelle Obama. I observed him clapping over his heart with one hand when finally I noticed his other hand was in a cast. Remarkable.
The schools observed the 100th day of this school year. The children were told to observe this day by dressing like the clothing 100 years ago.  Many were dressed in that fashion.
The Children's Etiquette Workshop was a big success last Saturday morning at First Methodist Fellowship Building on Church Street. There were nine beautiful, excited children who came to learn about good manners, how to eat properly, etc. After registering and enjoying refreshments, Jen Sherwood led the children in some active songs. Assisting me in the morning session were Charlotte Barnard, Kristie Driver, Guylene Atnip, Johnna Owens and Jen.
Other children interested in coming for even one or two sessions this month are invited and welcome to come next Saturday at 10. a.m. Note the picture in this week's issue.
Guylene shared an event with a similar experience. She said that she rode a Trailways Bus with my dad, Bud Lockhart, the driver one Saturday to Nashville. Said she was a teenager, and went alone to Cain-Sloan uptown to attend a one day charm school. Interesting.
Get-well wishes to Judy Boyd, Marie Hill, Fay Iverlett, Bob Morse and others who are sick with the flu or other ailments.
Sympathy to the families of Roscoe Foster, another classmate of mine, and Bill Phillips.
Faye Fuqua and Jerry Winfrey attended the funeral of Rev. Bill Lassiter at Holly Avenue Methodist Church in South Pittsburg last week. His late parents were Hilda Cantrell Lassiter and Ernest Lassiter, former postmaster here. Bill was survived by his wife, Sally, and children and step-children, Kathryn, Tom, Logan, Tommy and Patsy. Bill and Sally were in town last fall for the signing of his latest book at Webb's Drug Store. As said last week, Bill was also a classmate of mine.
Happy birthday for the first half of February to  Rev. Wallace Caldwell, Ben Driver, Luke Oliver, Michelle Driver, Bob Pettis, Hooper Judkins,  Dr. Mitch Tatum, Justin France, Ashton Campbell, Sarah Goodman,  Barbara "Babs" Thompson, Jerry Winfrey, Jean Harney, Rev. Ed Spiva, Lora Webb, Lois Farewell, Nathaniel Theriaque. Tiffany Wheatley, Brenda Rigsby and Amanda Trapp.
Forgot about the Super Bowl and Groundhog Day last week.
What kind of weather will we have in February? Warmer, I hope. I even heard that Florida was having icy weather.
Stay happy and stay warm. Amen.
