The Amen Corner
Winter Olympics now in the books

The 2014 Winter Olympics are over. Russia won the most medals, while the USA came in second. I had a Jewish friend who had tickets to all the Olympics up until his death in 2008.
Mother nature can't make up her mind whether to create winter or spring.  Warm one day and snow flakes the next day. My buttercups are budding in my yard. A good sign of spring.
If anyone finds a gray flannel glove, right handed, call me. I have lost one.
Get-well wishes and prayers to Faye Iverlett, Lewis Conklin and Guylene Atnip.
The Sweetheart Pageant at the community complex Saturday was well attended with parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Too bad all the cute little girls couldn't win with their evening dresses on. This was a good experience for them.
The Children's Etiquette Workshop will have its last session on March 8. Then the following day, March 9 at 11 a.m., they will be honored at a graduate and sharing program at First United Methodist Church. Everyone is invited.
Twenty-one more days until spring. It's also time to pay property taxes (Ugh!).
I attended an Educational Advisory Committee meeting at the Head Start Corporate Office in Cookeville last week. Teachers and supervisors from the centers in this region were present. They flooded us with vital information concerning the centers.
One interesting fact in this information was a recent study reported that children who play vigorously for 20-40 minutes a day are able to organize schoolwork, do class projects and learn mathematics. Glad we have physical education also in our public schools.
Closing thought: "Celebrate each day as if were your last."
 Amen.
