Ethel Keith to celebrate birthday 101

Hey, kids! After this week of school, it will be the annual fall break for two weeks. Whoopee for the students and the teachers!

I was among the many who attended the recent Health Fair at the Family Medical Center. There were 14 vendors there with their healthy information and treats at each table. They also served a delicious lunch. Afterwards, I played bingo and sat at the table with Billie Cook and her friends. Nice prizes! Thanks to all who participated and the medical staffs there.

The class of 1964 celebrated another high school class reunion at the Methodist Fellowship Building on Oct. 4. Dr. Donnie Cripps was president of this class.

An old classmate, Jean Ann Keith Parkinson, called me the other day about her mother's birthday. Ethel Keith will be 101 on Oct. 18. She is a resident at the Webb House, and will be celebrating there. Jean Ann wanted her old BPW friends and any friends to be invited and to come to it there. The party is at 2 p.m. at the Webb House.

Speaking of birthdays, belated happy birthday to Emma Jean Martin. Terry Little, Tom Hill, Brenda Hooper, William Blair, Annette Greek and Harold Martin. If you or someone else has a birthday this month, call and let me know. Thanks.

Sympathy to the families of Susan Young Cripps and Austin Wood.

Get Well Wishes to: Jane Cantrell, C.J. Jatalia (owner of C.J.'s Party Place ), Ron Mollinet, Dot Tittsworth, who suffered a fall, Hoyte Odom (home now), Lewis Conklin, Susie Mitchell, Chris Tramel, Rev. Edwin Moore, Betty Turner Loeb (eye surgery) and Marc Palamara.

Retirement wishes to Marie and Tom Hill. Tom retired in April after 42 years of teaching Science and computer technology at the West School, Smithville Elementary and the Middle School. Tom also served 3 years in the U.S. Army.

Marie racked up 37 years teaching English and as a librarian at DCHS. I remember Marie's mother, Nell McBride being a librarian in the high school many years ago.

A large crowd also turned out for the Chili Cook-off at the county complex last Friday. I think the Board of Education staff won first place for the best chili. Of course, all of it was good, even the entertainment by Sheriff Ray and Judge Cook in their overalls.

Janey Tittsworth Rawls was honored on her 80th birthday at Logan's Steak House in Mt. Juliet on Oct. 4. Hosting the occasion were her daughter Jennifer Rawls and grandson Jackson Rawls. Among the 40 guests were her husband, Sonny Rawls, two sisters, Sandra Gail Jones and her family, Betty Hale, other family members and longtime friend, Loyce Holcomb and daughter, Jayma. The many guests enjoyed the delicious food, fellowship and picture taking.

Royce Odom, Loyce Holcomb and Jayma attended the Ernest and Medie Vaughn Griffith family reunion at Fall Creek Falls recently. Family members from Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Nevada and Tennessee attended.

Royce and Loyce are great nieces and second cousins of the above family.

Wedding bells will ring on Oct. 18 for Ashley Bowling and John Slager in Murfreesboro.

Parents are Sherry Bowling and Milton Bowling and Teresa and Dennis Slager from Alexandria.

Who said "living in a small town is boring?" Not so, if you want to be active. It's there! Amen
