The art of miscommunication

Here we are in mid-July.  Vacations, swimming at the city pool, golf, Vacation Bible Schools, picnics and hot weather make up July activities before school begins August 1.
First Methodist will have their Vacation Bible School, July 24-28, 5:30-8 p.m. each evening for boys and girls, three-years up to sixth-graders. Leaders are still needed. Call the church office at597-4961, to help.
Happy birthday in July, to Rosie Little, Sandy Bailiff, Dr. Doug Hooper, Sherry Bush, Betty Jo Forkner, Melissa Oliver and Scott Cantrell.  Little Taylon Driver will celebrate his two year old birthday on July 17.
First Methodist is also looking for a Youth Director.  If anyone is interested, call the church office.
Congratulations and best wishes to Faye Iverlett who resigned from her position at UCHRA ,on June 30.  Faye worked for 15 years at this agency in a youth education program.  Previously, she taught school in Metro (Davidson County) for 26 years, before she and her husband, Spencer, moved to Smithville.. They have one son, Neal, and two pretty little granddaughters.   Faye is a graduate of Mississippi State College for Women and is a very creative person.
Earle Cantrell was in our Country Treasures Shoppe on Saturday for another book signing.  He also left some of his books at the shoppe if anyone wants one.  I took him to the Farmers Market in the courthouse yard and to the one on the slab, where he met many old friends.  One was Ben Harris Herman who also took him around to meet other people there.  Later  sister Charlotte joined us for lunch.
I must share another topsy-turvy story with you.  I had a tomato topsy turvy plant on my porch and a strawberry one, too.  I have been watering them every morning.  One day when I watered the strawberry plant, a bird flew out.  The same thing happened the next couple of days so I decided to peep inside the hanging plant.  Lo and behold, there was a bird's nest with three little blue eggs in it.   So I discontinued watering.  Within the week, out flew three little wobbly birds. End of the strawberry plant! Duh!
Last Sunday I was invited to Pomona UMC near Crossville for Ingram Scholarship Sunday. They had selected five receiptents to receive scholarships for college.  I invited Rose and Paul Dillen to ride up with me and attend the service.  It just so happened the pastor, Rev. Jerry Mayo had been Rose's pastor at Hillcrest church in Nashville.  The Mayos ate with us at the luncheon afterwards and Rose enjoyed reminiscing with them.  Small world!
Don't forget the Dekalb County Fair, the Grandpa Fair of the South, next week.
A quote from Guidepost: "With wings of faith, you can rise and soar."
Amen.
