I have written before about me not understanding anything about the Internet. Even the telephone is still a mystery to me. Ralph and June tried to tell me about Facebook. I simply don’t understand when they said that pictures can be seen around the world when someone wants to use Facebook on the Internet.
They said that my great-niece, Stephanie, and her husband, Billy Tiner, have pictures on Facebook telling about them expecting a baby. June also recently put a picture of me on Facebook which was taken here at NHC in Smithville. She said several people have written about it, especially my family in other parts of the country.
I think back to when I was young and how exciting it was to get a letter. I am amazed how far the world has come.
While thinking about Stephanie, she had a birthday on January 7th. She and Billy and my sister, Joann Pittman, had dinner with William and Angie Meadows and Brandon Rackley.
I continue to enjoy the activities here at NHC such as Bingo along with the services led by the group from Indian Creek Baptist Church and also the services by Lincoln Sanders.
Rebecca Ervin recently visited Pam Page and Joann Ervin. Congratulations to Mary Jane Hooper. Her name was drawn on WJLE for the Birthday Club and she received roses from DeKalb Florist. I like to listen to the Birthday Club and the local news. Dwayne Page does a wonderful job running the radio station.
Ralph says the greatest thing he ever did while managing WJLE was when he hired Dwayne. He does so much for the community and I know that others, like me, appreciate him.
Peggy Fuson came by NHC and brought Mrs. Estes and me a bowl of her blueberry cobbler. It was great. People are always doing nice things for us, and of course Mrs. Estes and I enjoy the attention. When you are older, little things are special such as blueberry cobbler.
I also look forward to the treats we get in the afternoons here. I usually get a cup of sherbet and a small snack.
I enjoyed Clint Hall, the NHC Administrator, coming by to speak to Mrs. Estes and me. He and his staff try really hard to give us the best service. Years ago, I did not like the words "nursing home", but it is a different world now. Mrs. Estes and I agree. How could a person not like living here? They do everything for us.
Of course anyone would rather be home, but when a person is disabled, a nursing home is an answer to prayer.
Some of my recent visitors included Manell Melton, Gracie Bratcher, Randy and Ellie Vaughn, Joann Pittman, Angie Meadows along with Ralph and June Vaughn.
