DeKalb County Grand Jury, November 14

The next term of the DeKalb County Grand Jury will meet on Monday, November 14, 2022, pursuant to T.C.A. 40-12-105.

“It is the duty of your grand jurors to investigate any public offenses which they know or have reason to believe has been committed and which is triable or indictable in the county. Any person having knowledge or proof that an offense has been committed may apply to testify before the grand jury subject to the provision of Tennessee Code Annotated 40-12-105.

 The foreman in this county is presently Ms. Katherine Pack, 1 Public Square, Room 201, Smithville, Tennessee, 37166.” “ The grand jury will next meet on Monday, the 14th day of November, 2022, at 8:30 a.m. You may be  prosecuted for perjury for any oral or written statement which yu make under oath to the grand jury, when you know the statement to be false, and when the statement touches on a matter material to the point in question.

 

Veteran’s Day Program, Nov. 11

On Friday, November 11th there will be a Veteran’s Day Program sponsored by the The American Legion and Ladies’ Auxillary Post 122, Senior Citizen’s Center and Pam Redmon; Jan Thomas; and Tom Bumbalough, Representatives of the Woodsmen of the World. The event will take place at the County Complex auditorium. Preliminary music will start at 9:30 a.m. At approximately 10 a.m. there will be a presentation of colors followed by a program of music by the DCHS band, and songs by the DCHS Chorus. Following the entertainment opening remarks, welcome and introduction of the guest speaker will be made by a member of the American Legion or Auxilliary. When the guest speaker has concluded, everyone will adjourn to the courthouse for the laying of the wreath and the playing of “Taps.” Everyone is welcome.

Veterans Service Officer Ready to Assist

Are you a veteran in need of assistance? DeKalb County has a Veteran's Service Officer ready to help you, not only with filing claims, but for conversations about your service.

Retired military service officer Bill Rutherford is located on the first floor of the DeKalb County Courthouse and is ready to offer assistance. He is available for in-office visits each Tuesday and Thursday or can be reached by telephone at any time at 615-560-3610.

DeKalb County appreciates the service of all veterans and is proud to provide this service.

School Calendar for 2022-23 Year

The school calendar is set for the 2022-23 yearDeKalb County students and teachers will have a full week off for fall break October 17-21, Thanksgiving November 21-25, and spring break March 27-31, and a two week break for Christmas December 21 to January 4. December 20 will be an abbreviated day. Students will return to school after the Christmas holiday on January 5, 2023. Schools will also be closed for Labor Day September 5, Dr. Martin Luther King Day January 16, President’s Day February 20, and Good Friday April 7. The last day of school will be May 24, 2023. Report cards will be issued at all schools on October 10, January 9, March 14, and May 24. Parent teacher conferences will be held at DCHS from 3-6 p.m. on October 10 and March 14 and at all the other schools, DWS, NES, SES, and DMS from 3-6 p.m. on October 13 and March 16.

 

Book Signing at Justin Potter Library

 Justin Potter Library presents an encore book signing with Karen Carpenter on Tuesday, November 15th from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm. This is to give everyone an opportunity to purchase her cookbook “The Best of Sundance Fine Foods” just in time for the holidays. Karen was the owner of Sundance Restaurant for 34 years until it’s closure in 2018.  She is sharing some of her favorite recipes that were enjoyed by everyone that visited the restaurant. Please come by the library and visit with Karen and take home a wonderful, autographed cookbook for yourself or as a Christmas gift for others. Smithville-DeKalb County Chamber Prayer Breakfast

Everyone is invited to attend the Smithville-DeKalb County Chamber Prayer Breakfast to be held on Thursday, November 17th from 7 AM to 8 AM at the Smithville First Baptist Church Life Enrichment Center, 101 W. Church Street, Smithville. Doors open at 6:30 AM. “We will have a guest speaker and people from our community will lead prayers making this a meaningful and memorable experience. A delicious pancake and sausage breakfast will be prepared by Smithville First Baptist Church,” said Chamber Director Suzanne Williams. Tickets are only $5 per person. Smithville Lions Club Annual Pecan Sale Fundraiser

Regifting Event, Dec. 3

Please join Patch Work in its 8th Annual Regifting Event, this is an opportunity for cbildren to experience he joy of giving at Christmas and develop a desire to help others. The event will be held Saturday, December 3 from 8a.m to 1 p.m. or until all gifs are gone this will be a the DeKalb Community Complex. This is for children ages 4-12.
