A manner of fact: Offer help to others when they need it is one of the foremost manners. Always be willing to assist others, especially the very young and the very elderly (me).
Prayer requests: For the decorated pilot of the ill-fated airplane carrying about 20 skydivers’ recently in Tullahoma, Tennessee. Remaining in the hospital, he has undergone a myriad of surgeries recently. Also, to the returning jumpers, including Jim, who have taken to the skies again. A feature article on this topic, authored by me, was featured in last week’s edition of this newspaper.
The Brady bark: My little four-year-old buddy is spoiled rotten. He refuses to jump into my lap unless there is a rug underneath him. I’m serious as a heart attack. I have to pick him up after he eyeballs me a thousand times and offers a tiny yelp. I don’t know why he does it. I’m not a dog whisperer.
Weekly lucy update: My little sis was the most beautiful attendee at the recent Donelson-Hermitage Women in Business gala, held at the Opryland Hotel on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Just seems like yesterday we were learning how to apply makeup. Daisy Webb always gave us samples of her makeup when we were kids. We felt like adult-children. Now, we’re so old we’re not supposed to wear makeup. Tough.
4 rules of grammar:
· Don’t end a sentence with a preposition, such as with, at, for, or about. One of the absolute worst is saying or writing, “Where’s it at?”
· Using Whom as an object pronoun. I use whom. Maybe I’m old school, as the word Who is slowly replacing Whom in modern jargon.
· Avoid passive voice, such as “The ball was thrown by her” rather than “I threw the ball.”
· Don’t split infinitives. Case in point. When I write, “To boldly go,” it is a split infinitive (don’t separate two verbs). It should be written, “To go boldly.” This gets on Lucy’s nerves, but I’ve tried to warn her.
Word of the week: “BIJOU.” As a noun, it means a jewel or a trinket. As an adjective, it means especially of a residence or a business establishment; small and elegant.
Until next week, be nice! (If I can – you can!)
