Through the Grapevine - week 19
LeAnn Judkins 2025

THIS WEEK’S THOUGHT: “Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions.”  (Dalai Lama)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISHES:

ANGIE’S BIBLE VERSE OF THE WEEK: “Bless them which persecute you: bless and curse not.”  (Romans 12:14)

THE BRADY BARK:  The “GOAT” somewhat has begun following a new sport other than football.  It’s the Atlanta Braves major league baseball team, broadcast almost nightly.  Only problem is him trying to follow the ball at 98-miles-per-hour.  Reminds me of my best buddy, Bertha McBride Trump, who never watched professional hockey because she couldn’t see “that little thing (puck) going everywhere.”  Same for Brady – but he’s a Democrat.

WEEKLY LUCY UPDATE:  I don’t know about Lucy.  I think she needs a long-overdue vacation – from me!

WORD OF THE DAY:  ZIGGURAT is an “Ancient temple or something used for a similarly shaped structure.”

YOU’RE KIDDING:  There have been 16 United States Presidents who were bilingual (could speak more than one language – English.)  President John Quincy Adams (President John Adam’s son) was proficient in nine languages - English, French, Dutch, German, Latin, Spanish, Greek, Italian and Russian.  He wins the prize for being the “most bilingual” president.  Second place goes to President Theodore Roosevelt with seven.  An attorney, Adams was graduated from Harvard College in 1787.

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY:

Thursday, May 15:  In 1991, Edith Cresson was appointed French premier; U.S. Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright was born in 1937.

Wednesday, May 21:  American aviator, Charles Lindberg, completed the first non-stop solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean in 1927.

MANNERS FOR THE WEEK:  This week, we’re focusing on “Table Manners.”  Use utensils properly, don’t eat with your fingers, and don’t talk with your mouth full of food are musts, as is pushing your chair back up to the table when you exit.  Try it.  You’ll make an outstanding impression.

A VOCABULARY NO:  Never say, “Where’s it at?”  Instead say, “Where is it?”  My mom always said, “It’s behind the AT!

IRREGARDLESS:  When I was in school, I was taught this was NOT a word.  Fast forward to today, and the word has been added to your dictionary.  Need proof?  Check your Websters.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:  “When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.  People know themselves much better than you do.  That’s why it’s important to stop expecting them to be something other than who they are.”  (Maya Angelou)

UNTIL NEXT WEEK – BE NICE!
