Tim's song

I was given this story from a friend, John (JL) Hibdon. I thought you may enjoy it.

12 year old’s miraculous recovery from Leukemia

In January 1980, our 12 year old son was diagnosed with leukemia. The doctors explained to us that he had the adult form of one of the rarest types of cancer, and the cancer cells were in 80 percent of his blood. If they had any luck, they might get him in remission within two to three weeks. They had three different types of chemotherapy they could try. They also had a new thing called a bone marrow transplant if they could find a match. A match wasn’t found.

This devastating illness made us realize the importance of having the support of a loving family and church family. The help and support we received was phenomenal. Even from our other children’s teachers, who would take them home after school to their homes where we would pick them up.

As soon as the children got into the car, they would ask to sing Tim’s song, which the Holy Spirit had given me. We would sing loudly and joyfully, thanking God for all He’s done for us. When we got home, I would take a bath and head straight for the hospital. Before I left from the hospital, Tim would call me to his bedside and say,” Daddy, sing my song.” I would put my arms around him and sing Tim’s song. Many years later, I realized it was not Tim’s song or my song, but God’s song, which is the reason I’m sharing this with you. I promised God to give Him all honor, glory and praise for all He’s done for our family.

So the course of the treatment was three chemotherapy drugs. They had success with the actual leukemia but not the bone marrow. The doctors were dependent somewhat on luck, but our faith and trust was in God. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

See next week issue of the Smithville Review for the remaining of the story.
