I hope everyone survived the Jamboree. It was a typical hot weekend for the patriotic event. When I left my store on Thursday evening, there was nothing on Walnut Street. When I returned Friday morning, the street had been transformed into tent city.
Throngs of people visited my Country Treasures Shoppe, just to get ice water and get in the a/c. Don't blame them! Some Smithvillians visiting were Delma and Jewell Murphy, Ralph and June vaughn, Margaret Ann Robinson, Billy Hendrixson (Crossville), Lounette Nicol and sister Vanissa. Bill Maffett from Cookeville was on hand to display his amazing prints and left them for anyone to see. Anne Foutch Gilpin, my houseguest for the weekend, was there to do caricatures, mostly of children. Even Becky Magura of WCTE-TV came by to say "hi."
By the way, Earle Cantrell will be in the Shoppe next Saturday to autograph his revised edition of The Path I Trod.
It’s a good time for class reunions. The classmates of 1958, and their spouses, gathered at the home of Frankie and Tony Hagan on Saturday. This event was held at their lovely pavillion next door.
The class of 1943 gathered at the Methodist CFC Bldg. for their reunion, according to Doyle Smith. He said there were 13 present, including their spouses. Toy Fuson, Jr. is the president of the class. They were served lunch by the Methodist women; the best cooks in town.
Meanwhile, a group of gals from the 50's, classmates through elementary and high school, gathered at the home of Sherry Bush on Friday. The out-of-towners provided the delicious lunch. There was a silent auction and a pig game for our activities. Of course, everyone talked at once and no one went home remembering any conversation.
Glenda called from Hendersonville to say "howdy" with regrets of not making it to the get-together this year. Those enjoying the occasion were Lounette, Lillian, Janis, Ethel Ann, Anne, Patsy and her granddaughter, Taryn, Rosemary, Faye, Sherry and myself. A special guest who had attended elementary school, with some was,Karen Parker Hendley from Michigan.
Betty Jo and Holly Forkner have returned from a western tour of days. They witnessed "Old Faithful" erupting in Yellowstone National Park, enjoyed Jackson Place in Wyoming and the Tetons. A good long trip, tiring but enjoyable.
Belated birthday wishes to Shelby Jean Tittsworth who celebrated her big birthday on June 25 at the Community Room at City Hall. Many came to wish her happy birthday and enjoyed delicious food thanks to Johnna and Tara.
Several have commented on my new picture here; thanks!
What a busy, busy weekend it was. Maybe we can rest now. Amen.
We survived the weekend
