Funeral services for Amon Newton Snyder, 93, of Alexandria were held Dec. 18 at First Baptist Church, Alexandria. Bros. Michael Cantrell, Don Elmore and Curt Wagoner officiated with burial following at Hillview Cemetery.
Mr. Snyder passed away Dec. 16 at his residence. He was born Aug. 1, 1919 in DeKalb County to the late James Roscoe Snyder and Jennie Hendrixson.
He was a teacher, an U.S. Army-Air Force veteran that served 1942-45, a Mason, Scottish Rite and member of the Alexandria Masonic Lodge 175.
Mr. Snyder was also a member of First Baptist Church of Alexandria where he was a deacon, past Sunday School Director, a past church training director and church treasurer for 33 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Stella Corley and Lacye Mullinax.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years Lucy Snyder of Alexandria; children Jeffrey (Lou Ann) Snyder, Penny (David) Thompson, both of Alexandria, and Jamie (Twyla) Snyder of Dickson; grandchildren Megan Thompson of Lebanon, Shelley Snyder of Ft. Worth, Texas, Drew Thompson of Alexandria, Levi Snyder of Virginia Beach, Va., Winston Snyder, Colton Snyder, and Holden Snyder, all of Dickson; nieces and nephews Billye (Harold) Foster, Charles (Jan) Mullinax, Greg (Judy) Corley and Martha Corley.
Pallbearers included Drew Thompson, Levi Snyder, Winston Snyder, Colton Snyder, Bobby Vickers, Billy Walker, Terry Clark and John Carroll Vaden.
DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
