Funeral services Martha Corley Bass Banks, 97, of Dowelltown were held Jan. 15 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bro. David Lunsford and Lee Neal officiated, with burial following in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.

 

She passed away Jan. 13 at DeKalb Community Hospital.

 

She was born September 12, 1917 to Lannis Archie and Lillian Corley Bass.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Petway Banks; grandson, James Andrew Banks; three half-sisters, Bessie Lee Colvert, Clara Sanders, and Sarah Avant; half-brother, Thurman Bass; sister, Mildred Bass.

 

Ms. Martha was a graduate of Baxter Seminary, and attended Cumberland University. She was a dedicated wife and mother, an active member of Dowelltown United Methodist Church and the U.M.W., and an employee of the Dowelltown Post Office for several years.

 

She will be greatly missed by her family, but left them many wonderful memories.

 

Survivors include three children, William David and wife Nancy Banks of Knoxville, Edwin Roger and wife, Betty Banks of Madison, Alabama, and Barbara and husband, Ben Shields of Nashville; grandchildren, Bill (Sharon) Banks of Knoxville, Debbie (Chip) Tatum of Oviedo, Florida, Rebecca Banks (German) Pardo of Madison, Alabama, Rachel (Tommy) Huff of Antioch, Tennessee, Amy (Richard) Kynard of Olathe, Kansas, Ashley Shields of London, England; great-grandchildren, Emily Banks, Hannah Tatum, Tommy Huff, Will Huff, William Pardo, Katie Pardo.

 

Pallbearers included; Bill Banks, German Pardo, Tommy Huff, Richard Kynard, Tom Simpson, Bobby Simpson, and Danny Conger.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Dowelltown United Methodist Church Building Fund or the charity of your choice.
