Funeral services for Leon Barnes, 76, of Smithville were held Sept. 11 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel.

 

Bros. Dwight Knowles and Garry McBride officiated, with burial following in Jefferson Cemetery.

 

Mr. Barnes passed away Sept. 9 at DeKalb Community Hospital ER.

 

Leon was born November 4, 1937 in DeKalb County to his parents, the late Grover and Emmy Walls Barnes.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, A.B. and Frank Barnes; sister, Lillian Turner.

 

He was a member of Mt. Hope The Baptist Church of Christ and retired from Cumberland Lumber Company.

 

Leon is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ann Barnes; son and daughter-in-law, David and Suzette Barnes; two grandchildren, Kade and Ashley Barnes all of Smithville; sister-in-law, Anna Ruth Barnes; niece Carolyn (Billy Ross) Rankhorn all of McMinnville.

 

Pallbearers included: Chris McBride, Jared Knowles, Chad Jennings, Michael Jennings, Jason Pelham, and Norval Young.

 

DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements
