Funeral services, for Betty Jean Murphy, 74, of Sparta were held Sept. 8 at the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Johnny Smartt officiated with burial following at Jennings Cemetery in Statesville.
Ms. Murphy passed away Sept. 5 at St. Thomas Hospital. She was a retired machine operator with Dowelltown Manufacturing and affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Lily Murphy; husband, Charlie Murphy; daughter, Lois Smartt; five brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include her four daughters, Patricia Murphy of Sparta, Darlene and Andrew Murphy, Charlene Mashburn and Regina Hannah all of Smithville; seven sons, Brad and Teresa Murphy of Sparta, Audie and Evelyn Murphy of Madisonville, Billy and Karen Murphy of Walling, David and Tammy Murphy of McMinnville, Steve and Vanessa Murphy of Woodbury, Micha and Teresa Murphy and Samuel and Miranda Murphy all of Smithville; 38 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother Clyde Murphy of Walling; and her sister Bissie Dodd of Watertown.
Pallbearers included Brad, Audie, Billy, David, Steve, Micah and Samuel Murphy.
Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, Smithville was in charge of the arrangements.
