McMinnville resident and DeKalb County  native Billy Smoot Young, Jr., age 74, was born September 11, 1945 and died August 11, 2020 at his residence following an extended illness.

A retired manager with the Tennessee Department of Workforce Development, United States Army veteran and member of the North Warren Church of Christ, he was the son of Dorothy Tittsworth Young of Smithville and the late Billy Smoot Young.  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by brother, Joe Mason Young.

Mr. Young was married to Joanie Parkhurst Young of McMinnville.  In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Matt and Brandy Young and Josh Young both of McMinnville;  four grandchildren, Destiny (Jesse) Hanley of Knoxville, TN and Brianna, Kylie and Matthew Young, Jr. all of McMinnville;  sister, Laura Lynn (John) Carter of McMinnville and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Friday, August 14, 2020 at North Warren Church of Christ in McMinnville with Mark Parkhurst officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to North Warren Church of Christ or the National Kidney Foundation both c/o High's.

High Funeral Home, McMinnville, was is in charge of arrangements.
