Funeral services for Mr. Cecil Ray Burger, 89, of Smithville were held Jan. 26 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Dr. John Carpenter officiating. Then Mr. Burger was entombed at DeKalb Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Mr. Burger passed away Jan. 23 at NHC Healthcare Center in Smithville. He was a construction worker, long-time city employee, former Smithville Mayor and Alderman and he was a member of Smithville First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Willie Sowells Burger and his wife Wilma Jo Burger.
Survivors include his four children David (Kyoko) Burger of Japan, Gereda Burger of Massachusetts, Pamela (Danny) Poss of Smithville and Anthony (Tammie) Burger of Smithville; five grandchildren Nancy Burger, Simon (Emi) Burger, Erica Burger, Nicole Burger and Zach Poss; a great-grandson Braxton; sister Sudie Vickers of Liberty; and a sister-in-law Mildred (Howard) Harrell of Murfreesboro.
Pallbearers included Nancy, Simon, Emi, Nicole and Erica Burger and Zach Poss.
Serving as honorary pallbearers was the Smithville Police Dept., the Smithville Fire Dept., Burnace Vandergriff, John Alford and Holly Anderson.
DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville,  was in charge of the arrangements.
