Darlene Ruth Smith, 79, of Sparta passed away on Dec. 30 at DeKalb Community Hospital.She was a Lutheran and a homemaker.She was preceded in death by her parents, August Charles and Charlotte McDonald; son, Jon S. Smith.She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John S. Smith; two daughters, Kelly Spencer of Goodlettsville and Megan Dougherty of Severna Park, Maryland; five grandchildren, Erin Morris, Nicholas Smith, Mason Smith, Harper Doughtery, and Devin Doughtery; one great-grandchild, Sophie Morris; one brother, Merle McDonald of Jacksonville, Fla.; several nieces and nephews also survive.
