David Lane McDowell, age 63, of Baxter passed away in Miami, Florida on Sunday, May 2, 2021.
He was born January 14, 1958 to his parents, the late Louie B. and Willa Mae Hayes McDowell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Louie McDowell, Jr and a sister, Patricia Clayborn.
He was a Baptist and worked at Averitt for 25 years in Risk Management. David served on the DeKalb County Commission from 2010-2014.

David leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Mary Kathryn "Katie" McDowell of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Cheryl K. (David) Bower of Shelbyville, TN and Cathy L. (Ronnie) Gay of Fayetteville, TN; 10 nieces and nephews.
The family is honoring David's request to be cremated and a memorial graveside service was held Monday, May 10, 2021 at Prosperity Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be on Monday 12 Noon until 2:30 at which time Mr. McDowell's cremains will be taken to the cemetery for the graveside service.
Donations be made to the DeKalb Animal Coalition, per David's wishes in memory of David.
DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
