David Weber Crandall died Feb. 26 at NHC in Smithville during a brief illness. Mr. Crandall was born June 19, 1923 in Cheshire, Conn. He resided in Wolcott, Conn., most of his life and moved to Smithville with his wife in August 1996. He served in the US Army and Air Force in WWII for a full term and was honorably discharged. He was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and served faithfully as an elder in the Wolcott Congregation and the Smithville congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. He devoted his life to his ministry, helping others to learn the Bible. He worked as district manager and retired from the Waterbury Republican and American Newspaper for 40 years. He was also a licensed T.V. repairman and had his own business, Dave's T.V. and Radio Repair, in addition to working for the newspaper. He loved guitar and had his own small orchestra in the 1950s called the Skylarks. He taught many students to play guitar. He also loved golf and enjoyed other hobbies. Mr. Crandall is survived by his wife of 59 years, Frances Olshefski Crandall of Smithville. He was a loving father to his son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Natheene (Nat) Crandall of Smithville and his daughter and son-in-law, Diane (Dee) and Michael Tatum of Lawrenceburg. He was the son of the late Howard E. and Anna Norick Crandall. David was also the brother to his late sister, Lillian Crandall Moore; one brother, the late Howard Crandall; and one step-brother, the late Frank Buckingham. He is also survived by a special niece, Sharon Moore Speed, and other nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. on March 9 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with Harold McCarty presiding. Visitation will be held at 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. on March 9 at the Kingdom Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the Smithville congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
