Denny Denton Cantrell, 93

Dennie Denton Cantrell, age 93, passed away at his home on August 1, 2023. Born January 18, 1930, he was the son of the late Horace and Euna Young Cantrell of Dekalb County. Theirs was a large farming family with 16 children.

 

At the age of 22, Dennie began service to his country in the Korean War. He was a corporal in the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division, serving as a combat medic with the 3rd Medical Battalion. He received the Korean Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. A professional welder for many years, Dennie then worked for Warren County until his retirement at age 92. He was a devout Christian and cherished family man.

 

In 2008, Dennie lost his loving wife of 54 years, Katie Pack Cantrell. He was also preceded in death by daughters, Kathy and Penny.

 

Dennie is survived by son, Steve (Doris) Cantrell of Smithville; daughters, Pamela Cantrell and Kimberly (Ever) Flanigan of McMinnville; grandson, Zachary McBride; granddaughter, Misty Arnold; great-grandsons, Garrett (Kendra) Arnold and Gabriel (Sara) Arnold; great-granddaughter, Abbigail Kate Britton as well as three great-great-grandchildren, Owen and Amelia Arnold and Jonah Arnold. He is also survived by one sister, Ethel Redmon of McMinnville, many nieces and nephews and friends of all ages.

 

Visitation will be held August 13th at High’s of McMinnville from 10:00 until 3:00, followed by a 4:00 graveside service and burial at New Union Cemetery in the Belk Community of Dekalb County.

 

High Funeral Home and High’s Cremations, Inc. McMinnville, is in charge of arrangements.
