Underhill
Dixie Louis Underhill, 85 years old, passed away peacefully at home in McMinnville on July 1 at 6:23 a.m. with his wife and three children by his side. He was under the care of Caris Hospice.
Born on October 3, 1930 in Smithville, his parents were William Ernest and Mary Belle Vanatta Underhill. Three brothers, Eugene, Harold, and Beecher.
He married his bride, Naomi Bratcher Underhill, 66 years ago.
Dixie joined the Army in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1955. He worked in Detroit, Michigan at the Cadillac Motor Car Division for 30 years. He then retired 1987 and moved to McMinnville.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi Bratcher Underhill, his three children, one daughter, Cathy and husband Gregory Digue of Jackson, Michigan. Two sons, Glenn and wife Kimberly Underhill of Taylor, Michigan and Kelvin and wife Nancy Underhill of Ortonville, Michigan. Four grandchildren, Shanna Moricz, Clay Digue, and Kyle Underhill all of Michigan and Blake Digue of Kentucky. Eight great grandchildren, Drake, Devin, and Drew Moricz, Mackenzie, Matthew, Kaelyn, and Sean Digue, and Levi Underhill. One brother, Beecher and wife Jeannette Underhill of Good Hope, Georgia. two sisters-in-law, Allyson R. Underhill of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Gracie Bratcher of Smithville. Numerous nephews and nieces survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Ernest and Mary Belle Vanatta Underhill. 2 brothers, Eugene and Harold Underhill and sister-in-law, Dorothy Underhill.
He was chairman of trustee of the cemetery decorations at Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church from 1991 to 2010. He became an ordained Deacon in 1997. He attended Madison Street Baptist Church.
Services will be held at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home in Smithville. Visiting hours for family is Tuesday, July 5, 2016 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Public visitation will be 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, July 6 2016 from 10 a.m. until the funeral services at 4 p.m. with burial at Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery on Banks Pisgah Road, Smithville, TN. Officiating the services will be Brother Hardlen Simmons and Brother Carl Smith.
Pallbearers are Blake and Clay Digue, Kyle, Hal, Matt, and Josh Underhill.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Banks Cemetery and the Madison Street Baptist Church.
Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, was in charge of the arrangements.
