Young
Donal B. Young Sr., 79, of Smithville, awoke to a new morning after crossing the river to join the Lord on Feb. 14.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 20 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home, Dewey Young officiated.
Burial followed in Mt. Pisgah with full military honors by the Veterans’ Honor Guard.
Don made Smithville his home and established his business, Young’s Heating and Air, there in the 1980’s. Outside of work, Don enjoyed fishing at Center Hill Lake and shooting the breeze with his friends at the VFW and the Amvets. He also developed an interest in wine making, and was proud of the numerous awards that he received for his labors.
Born on December 6, 1936 in Sparta to the late John C. and Nancy Mae Young, Don was preceded in death by his brothers, Barney, Raymond, and Charles Young, as well as sisters, Vera England, and Louise Koneda.
He leaves behind brothers, Bob and Jim Young of Sparta, and sisters, Mary Young of Cookeville, and Ellnora (Bea) Gray of Painesville, Ohio.
His children all live out of state, and he enjoyed making up a good southern breakfast for them when they came to visit, after they picked the tomatoes and okra. His son, Donal Jr. and wife Marianne would come in from Michigan with Marianne’s mom Shirley Zemonick, and his daughters, Debbie Frye and Denise Young (Dave Midcap) would arrive from Ohio.
Over the years he loved to sing a song about Johnson’s old gray mule to his granddaughters, Ashley Scott (Frank), Morgan Copeland (Garrett), and Delani Midcap. Unfortunately his great-grandson, Lucas Scott and his yet to be born sibling never got to hear the braying.
He also leaves behind another daughter, Heather Long of Robersdale, AL and her children, Beth Morris, Ethan Long, and Erin Piersal.
The family would like to thank Toni and Gary Fruehauf for their love, support, and friendship with dad over the years along with dear friends, Wanda McAndrew and Roger Neal; we were blessed to have you in dad’s life. We cannot possibly thank our Aunt Mary enough for everything that she has done for dad and our family. We would also like to thank the excellent staff of NHC in Smithville for their care in his final days.
Hunter Funeral Home, Sparta were in charge of the arrangements.
