Doctor of Psychology and Navy Master Chief Eddie Norman Neal passed away Wednesday January 23, 2019 at NHC Smithville. He was born to his parents Edward and Lena Neal April 29, 1938. Eddie attended elementary school at Smithville Colored School and High School at Wilson County Training High in Lebanon.
After graduating from high school, Eddie joined the Navy and attended the Naval War College in Rhode Island. He was assigned to the submarine corps where he served aboard the nuclear submarine Francis Scott Key. Dr. Neal opened his psychology practice, the Center for Effective Living in San Diego, California after retiring from the Navy. He was an avid sports car enthusiast, golfer and he loved animals.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Lena Bass Neal and a sister Katie Neal Vance.
He is survived by his daughters Gemetta Neal of Connecticut and Phyllis Padilla of California; two sons, James Neal of Virginia and Kevin and Laura Neal of Main; two granddaughters Kersey and Celina Neal of Maine; and one sister Jackie Smith of Smithville.
Funeral service was held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burnace Lyons officiated and burial followed in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers were Bill Smith, Wade Smith, Lee Fisks, Fred Dowell, Jr., Christopher Smith and Brandon Smith.
Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
