Emogene Atnip, age 94, of Smithville was welcomed home into the loving arms of Jesus on Sunday Morning June 25, 2023.
Emogene, "Mama Jean" to most of her family and friends, valued Jesus and family above all else. She devoted everything she had to taking care of her family, raising her son and grandchildren. She was a faithful member of the Church of God for the majority of her life.
She was born on June 28, 1928 to her parents the late Herman and Willie Hooper. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Boyd Atnip; daughter-in-law, Lori Atnip; and great-grandson, Elias Atnip.
She is survived by her son Dennis Atnip; two grandsons, Eric Atnip and Jordan (Morgan) Atnip; great-grandchildren, Savory and Neveah Brown, Wyatt Atnip, and Jude Atnip: sister, Sandra Turner.
Funeral service for Ms. Emogene was held Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with her grandson, Jordan Atnip officiating and burial followed in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Smithville First Baptist Church Youth Group.

DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
