Gene Autry Cripps, 78, of Smithville died Saturday at his residence.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Tabernacle The Baptist Church. He was also retired from Carrier Air Conditioning.

The funeral was held Monday at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home.

Garry McBride officiated with burial following in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.

Cripps was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Chapman Cripps; parents, Johnny and Potter Taylor Cripps; a sister, Jeanette Dodson; and brothers, James "Curley" and Jerry Cripps.

Survivors include a daughter, Michelle and David Burklow; a son, Patrick and Amy Cripps; three grandchildren, Callie, Zoe Potter, and Body John Cripps; sisters, Judy and M.B. Silcox, and Brenda Cripps; brother, Johnny Cripps; sister-in-law, Linda and Boyd Trapp; and brother-in-law, Glen Dodson all of Smithville. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins survive.

Pallbearers included; Scott Cripps, Tyree Cripps, Tracy Silcox, Stacy Silcox, Alex Woodard, and Darrell Trapp.

Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, was in charge of the arrangements.
