Funeral services for Gladys Ray Cope, 91, of Smithville, were held April 18 at New Union The Baptist Church. Bro. Darrell Cantrell and Bro.Virgil Hibdon officiated with burial following in New Union Cemetery.
Mrs. Cope passed away early morning on April 16 at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a retired machine operator at Kingston Timers, a member of the Eastern Star and was affiliated with New Union The Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, George E. Ray and Rayton Cope; parents, Ed Nichols and Mellie Fisher Chisam; two sisters, Hazel Chisam and Eula Cantrell and her husband, Atwood; and two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Shelby Ray.
Survivors include her three children, Ernest and Elene Ray of Adams, Tenn., Linda Ray and Puggy Cook of Alexandria and Roy and Patsy Ray of Smithville; six grandchildren, Melinda and Mark Miller of Liberty, Tina and Matt Gibson and Ernie and Christin Cook, all of Alexandria, Greg and Amanda Ray of Clarksville, Patrick and Dessa Ray and Tracy and Donna Ray, all of Smithville; nine great-granchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers included Greg, Patrick, Tracy and P.J. Ray, Ernie Cook, Josh and Mark Miller and Matt Gibson.
Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
