Funeral services for Gladys Silva Odom Knowles of Smithville were held Jan. 8 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Dr. John Carpenter and Bro. David Mahan officiated with burial following in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Knowles passed away Jan. 6 at her daughter’s and son-in-law’s residence. She was a member of Smithville First United Methodist Church and attended Whorton Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Knowles was a school teacher for 44 years, a member of the DeKalb County Retired Teachers, FCE, Order of Easter Star #374 and a Sunday School teacher for 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pascal Clyde (PC) Odom and Maude Gilreath Odom; step-mother, Garnet Tramel Odom; husband, L.D. Knowles; many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Vickie and husband, Walter, Burton of Smithville; a grandson, Brandon and wife, Kelly, Burton both of Knoxville; two great-grandsons, Brock Brandon and Knox Turner Burton, both of Knoxville; a sister, Elene Odom Hayes of Smithville; a brother, Hoyte and his wife, Joann, Odom both of Smithville; sister-in-law, Macon Judkins of Smithville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers included Dean Adcock, Carlton Miller, Michael Pinegar, Dennis Johnson, Donnie Driver, Vester Parsley Jr., W.J. Poss and Barry Miller.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were DeKalb County teachers and friendship and the Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church.
DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
