Funeral services for Helen Elizabeth Maxwell Carter, 88, of Lumberton, N.C., were held March 31 at the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Tommy Taylor and Bro. B.J. Thomason officiated with burial following at Whorton Springs Cemetery.
Ms. Carter passed away March 26 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in N.C. She was retired from Smithville Shirt Factory and affiliated with the Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nick and Willie Reasonover Brown; two husbands, Toy L. Maxwell and Robert Carter; brother, Walton Brown; and step-daughter, Helen Putty.
Survivors include her two sons, Harold David and Vivian Maxwell of N.C. and Ron and Judy Maxwell of Ala.; seven grandchildren, Todd Maxwell of Goodlettsville, Scott Maxwell of Ala., Ginger Wenger of Smithville, AJ Fedak of Ala.; James Scruggs of N.C., Suzanne Parker of N.C. and Robin Peronne of N.C.; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one brother, Raymond Brown of Nashville.
Pallbearers included Todd and Scott Maxwell, A.J. Fedack, Anthony Maxwell, and Daniel and Matthew Holmes.
Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
