Helen Burt

Helen Ruth Vandagriff Burt, age 89, of Alexandria and formerly of the Dry Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord Monday morning, October 24, 2022 at Quality Care Health and Rehab in Lebanon. 

 

She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Lebanon.  Helen worked at Better Bilt Aluminum in Nashville and Alexandria Garment then her last employment was at DeKalb Middle School cafeteria. 

 

She was born May 27, 1933 to her parents, the late John Floyd and May Farler Vandagriff.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Sherwood D. Burt; daughter, Debbie O'Connor; son, Rickey Parsley; two sons-in-law, Jere O'Connor and Kenneth Corley; grandson, Phillip Parsley, Jr.; two sisters, Cornelia Collins, Audrey Frazier and brother, Joe Vandagriff. 

 

She leaves to cherish her memory, three children, Phillip (Janice) Parsley of Smyrna; Larry (Miriam) Parsley of Murfreesboro and Vicki Corley of Alexandria; 13 grandchildren, Sharon, Laverne, James, Amy, Dustin, Mike, Leslie, Josh, Caleb, Stacie, Kim, Nick and Erica; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Fay Vandagriff Elrod of Smithville and several nieces and nephews. 

 

Funeral service was held Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Dusty Bradley officiating with burial following in Salem Cemetery in Liberty.  

 

Pallbearers included Josiah Posey, Isaiah Posey, Shane Gregory, Larry Parsley, Phillip Parsley and Dusty Bradley.

 

DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
