Herbie Davenport, 69
Herbie Davenport

Herbie Davenport, age 69, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Vanderbilt Medical Center.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Herbie was a retired Stg. Army Military Service Member. He was actively deployed in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm in the Middle East. He retired and was honorably discharged after 21 years of service. Herbie worked for Star Mfg. in Smithville for many years after retirement. He spent his time with his wife and children enjoying time at the ballfields with his grandchildren. Many around the ballfields just referred to him as grandpa. He loved his grandchildren deeply and had recently enjoyed another love as grandpa by the addition of two great-grandchildren. If time had permitted, he would have been at those ballfields again, happily cheering them on at each game. Herbie was blessed with so many friends. He will dearly be missed by all who knew him. In recent years, he had befriended many new neighbors who will miss stopping in to chat and grab some great homegrown veggies from the gardens. He and his wife enjoyed sharing with all who came around. Many friends would spend hours a day chatting on the porch or his favorite place at the barn.

He was born July 14, 1954, to his mother, the late Callie Mae Kirby. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by mother-in-law, Hassie Dell Hullett; father-in-law, C. C. Hullett; and sister-in-law, Mary Inita Hendershott.

Herbie is survived by his wife Kathie Davenport of Smithville; daughter, Danyelle (Shawn) Adcock of Smithville; sons, Cody Davenport of Smithville, Josh Turner of Red Rock, TN; grandchildren, Taylor Brooke (Caleb) Bain of Cookeville, Tyler Monette (Jasmine Yost) of Smithville, and Angelina Davenport of Smithville; great-grandbabies, Brock Andrew Bain of Cookeville, and Damon Michel Monette of Smithville; sister, Donna (Randy) Ozment of Watertown; sister-in-law, Thelma Hullett Neal of Lebanon; brothers-in-law, Charles Nelson Hullett of Smithville, and Ralph Hullett of Ind.; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
