Funeral services for Betty Sue Herndon, 87, of Smithville were held Jan. 1 at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Mark Bass officiated, with entombment following at DeKalb Memorial Gardens.
She passed away Dec. 30 at NHC of Cool Springs in Franklin.
She was a devoted Christian, wife and mother who loved to share her home with her family and friends and a cup of coffee with her special friend Betty Hale. Mrs. Herndon and her late husband were co-owners of the Farmers Supply Company, Center Hill Motel and Restaurant. She was actively involved in the decorating committee at First Baptist and enjoyed her volunteer service with the Recycle Teens and Treasures benefitting the Family Life Center.
She was a member of Smithville First Baptist Church and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Herndon; parents, Haskell Eugene and Loretta Ann Slatton Young; brothers, Morris and Eugene Young; sisters, Joy Marie Leighty and Joan Faye Fitts.
She is survived by son, James C. (Fran) Herndon of Smithville; daughters, Linda (Steve) Armistead of Mt. Juliet, and LuAnne (Tim) Smith of Franklin; grandchildren, Stephanie (Michael) McDonald of Monroe, New York, Chad (Cathryn) Armistead of Mt. Juliet, James C. Herndon, III (Lynne) of Kingsport, Tara (John) Harper of Lebanon, Sara (Torrey) Fulton of Mt. Juliet, Matthew (Jennifer) Herndon of Smithville, Amanda (Scott) Harrison of Franklin, Benjamin Smith of Nashville, and Samuel Smith of Franklin; great-grandchildren, Morgan Capley, LJ and Malia Fisher, Jacob, Joshua and Isabella Armistead, Crockett, Holly, Cate and Andrew Herndon, Garrett and Grayson Fulton; sister, Patricia Ann Sain of Hermitage; many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Pallbearers included James Colier Herndon, Matthew Tyler Herndon, Chadwick Armistead, LJ Fisher, Ben Grant Smith, and Sam Houston Smith.
