Hobson

 

On August 9, Ronnie Ben Hobson passed away at his home in Fairfield Glade, Crossville, after a brief illness. He was born March 30, 1943 in Liberty.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Edward Hobson and Rebecca Adamson Hobson of Liberty.

 

Survivors include his brother, Eddie Hobson (Jane) of Smithville; two nieces, Bekki Atkinson (Jason) of Crossville, and Edie Hobson of Atlanta, GA. Also surviving are a great niece, Becca Patton; two great nephews, Ben Patton and Jacob Atkinson; and his very beloved cat "Trinket", all of Crossville.

 

Ronnie was a member of Salem Baptist Church, and graduated from Liberty High School in 1961. He attended Tennessee Tech University and graduated with a degree in mathematics. Ronnie worked as a computer programmer in Huntsville, Ala. For many years before moving to Crossville.

 

Sports were an important part of Ronnie’s life. He played basketball for Liberty High School and went on to play for the Tennessee Tech Basketball team. He was elected captain of his team in 1964-65.

 

Ronnie was also an avid and talented tennis player in Huntsville, where he formed many close friendships with those who shared his enthusiasm for the game. He loved baseball and was extremely knowledgeable in all phases of this sport’s history and its trivia.

 

Ronnie’s wishes to be cremated and buried at Salem Cemetery in Liberty were fulfilled.

 

A private family memorial was held at Salem Baptist Church on August 22.

Ronnie was always a kind and loving man, and we will miss him.

 

Memorials in his name may be made to Lighthouse Christian Camp or the American Cancer Society.
