Mrs. Irene Petty Russell, 82, of Donelson died at 6:15 p.m. on July 23 at her Theodore Road home of a chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder.Graveside services were conducted Tuesday afternoon July 26. Eld. Charles Allen Gentry officiated at the 1 p.m. services and burial followed in the Ridgewood Cemetery.Born Marie Irene Petty in Smithville on September 11, 1928, she was one of four children and the only daughter of the late Jesse Solon Petty and Mary Ethel Gilbert Petty.Two brothers preceded her in death, Earl Petty who died at the age of 60 on March 13, 1993 and Dene Petty who died September 4, 2004 at the age of 68.On August 18, 1950 she was united in Nashville to Charles William Russell who preceded her in death on April 19, 1990.They were preceded in death by two sons, Charles William “Chuck” Petty who died August 16, 2010 at the age of 54 and an infant who died in April of 1954.Mrs. Russell and her parents moved to Smith County from Dekalb County in 1931 and Irene and Charles moved to Donelson in 1950.Mrs. Russell was a homemaker and a member of the McFerrin Avenue Baptist Church in Nashville.Surviving is her brother, Ralph Petty of Smithville and Donelson; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.Sanderson Funeral Home of Carthage was in charge of the arrangements.SMITHVILLE REVIEWSmithville, TNJuly 27, 2011
