Mrs. Ivah W. Johnson Hayes, age 91, passed from this life to the next on March 15, 2012 at her home in Baxter. Eastern Star services will be held Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Crest Lawn Funeral Home at 4 pm with visitation to follow until 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Crest Lawn with Brother Steryl Paramore officiating. Burial will follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Hayes was the daughter of the late Oscar & Daisy Cole Johnson, She was born on March 7, 1921 in Johnson Chapel, Dekalb County. Mrs. Hayes is survived by three daughters, Evelyn Keiser of Powell, Helen Burgess of Cookeville and Peggy Frasier-Dyer of Sparta; seven grandchildren, Charles Keisler, Jr. & Sally; Jeffery Keisler; Greg Keisler & wife Rhonda of Powell; Blair Burgess, Jr. & wife Jocie of Killen, Ala.; Brian Burgess of Baxter; Brad Frasier & friend Sheila Roark of Shelbyville; Kristen Frasier & friend Ashley Shockley of Cane Ridge, TN. Special friends children Chuck & Diane Schimberg of Baxter; 10 great-grandchildren, Amanda, Justin, Aaron, Kyle, Jacob & Katie Keisler of Powell; Blair Burgess (Davis) III of Madison, Wisc. and Taryn Burgess of Killeen Ala.; Paige Hensley & Andrew Keisler of Powell; Ethan & Elijah Burgess of Baxter and six great great grandchildren.
One brother, Carl Johnson & wife Lila of Baxter; four sisters, Geneva Floyd of Sparta; Pat Green of Nashville; Marcella Bilbrey & husband Gene of Algood; Vivian Boswell & husband Larry of Cookeville; one brother-in-law, Ordue Young & wife Elise of Portland; sister-in-law, Juanita Austin-Young of Baxter; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Hayes, whom she was married to for 51 years; one sister, Mattie Bunch Johnson; Mildred & Earl Trump; Hershel & Marie Johnson; Oren & Bernice Johnson; William & Hilda Johnson; Clyde Green & Charlie Floyd.
Mrs. Hayes was a member of Faith Fellowship in Cookeville, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 152 and the Red Hat Society in Baxter. She loved going to church and to gospel singings, traveling, Baxter Senior Citizens and playing Rook. She worked part-time at Elmore's Grocery Store in Baxter.
Pall bearers will be grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Building Fund at Faith Fellowship of Johnson Chapel Cemetery Fund.
