Jack Eugene Estes, 88

Eighty-eight-year-old Jack Eugene Estes of Smithville died of an extended illness on March 31 at Alive Hospice Center of St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
Mr. Estes was owner and operator of Estes Supermarket for over 30 years and he served as Assessor of Property in DeKalb County from 1984 to 1996. He was also a member of the Smithville First Baptist Church.
A memorial service was held on April 6 at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Terry Fesler officiated with the Veteran's Honor Guard from the Cookeville district and two active duty military paying respects to Mr. Estes, with presentation of the USA Flag to family in recognition for Mr. Estes' service in the military.
Mr. Estes was preceded in death by his parents, Brackett and Mary Eva Hendrixson Estes. He is survived by his wife, Doris Estes of Smithville and three children, Tarron Estes of Boulder, Colo., Mark Estes of Bangkok, Thailand, and Stephen Estes of Smithville. Surviving also are three grandchildren, Gage Estes (11); Jonathan Estes (3), and Hannah Estes (2).
