James B. Atnip, age 92 of McMinnville, passed away Thursday night January 11, 2019 at St. Thomas River Park Hospital in McMinnville.  He was a member of Gath Baptist Church, WWII U.S. Army veteran as field artillery and worked with Citizens Gas Co. and a former railroad worker.

 He was born May 5, 1926 to his parents, the late Russell and Cora Ferrell Atnip.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, James Russell Atnip and Debra Elaine Atnip; one great-grandson, Josh; two sisters, Joyce Ratliff and Bessie Waggoner; one brother, Gene Atnip. 

  He is survived by wife of 70 years, Dorothy D. Atnip of McMinnville; three daughters, Linda Jo (Steve) Nunley, Glinda Steakley and Brenda T. Atnip all of McMinnville; 13 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 31 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Atnip of Florida; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

 Funeral service was held Sunday, January 13, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial following in Gath Cemetery. 

 Serving as pallbearers were Rickey Stoner, Ryan Stoner, Michael Dillman, Robby Stoner, James Dillman, Danny “DJ” Dillman, Bryce Hildreth and Jimmy Anderson

 DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
