Funeral services, for James Edward “Curly” Cripps, 85, of Smithville,  were held June 4 at the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Ernie Dawson and Chad Kirby officiated with burial following at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. 
Mr. Cripps passed away June 1 at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a retired Maintenance Supervisor at DeKalb Community Hospital, a WW II Veteran, an avid baseball fan, a softball coach, and affiliated with Bright Hill Methodist Church.  
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Rosco, Sr. and Potter Laren Taylor Cripps; wife, Chloa Parsley Cripps; daughter, Donna Kay Cripps Williams; brother, Jerry Cripps.
Survivors include his three grandchildren, Gina (Josh) Satterfield, Jayme (Nathan) Dowell both of Smithville, and Justin Mathew Cripps of Cassville; two brothers, Johnny (Shirley) Cripps and Gene Cripps all of Smithville; three sisters, Jeanette (David) Glen Dodson of Smithville, Judy (M.B.) Silcox of Smithville, Brenda (John) Arledge of Centertown; four great-grandchildren, Destry and Laradon Wiggins and Izayah and Kylynn Dowell all of Smithville; son-in-law, Larry (JoAnne) Williams of Sparta; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers included Burt Silcox, Moto Silcox, Patrick Cripps, Scott Cripps, Jeremy Lassiter and Chad Kirby.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Laradon Wiggins, Destry Wiggins, Izayah Dowell, Kylynn Dowell and Justin Cripps.
Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements.
