Funeral services for James William “Jim Bear” Knowles of Smithville were held Feb.11 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bro. Phil Tollett and Bro. Lynn Russell  officiated, eulogy by Jim Judkins, with burial following at  DeKalb Memorial Gardens.
He passed away Feb. 8 at his residence surrounded by his son and several friends.
He was born August 16, 1956 in DeKalb County.
Bear was a retired salesman of his family business Knowles and Sons Nursery, and a real estate agent with Luna Realty, both in Smithville. He attended Allens Chapel United Methodist Church, and was a member of Mt. View Primitive Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Irene Frazier Knowles; one brother, Steven Frazier Knowles; sister-in-law, Tammy Crook Knowles.
He is survived by his son, Dustin Knowles of Smithville; one granddaughter, Victoria Knowles of Murfreesboro; two brothers, Larry (Melissa) Knowles of Murfreesboro, and Kenneth Knowles of Smithville; one sister, Linda Sue Knowles, of Smithville; sister-in-law, Laurie Knowles of Murfreesboro; three aunts, Macon Judkins of Smithville. Grace Frazier Whittington of Purlear, North Carolina, Sherry Frazier Fisher of Brebard, North Carolina; two nephews, several nieces, cousins and a host of friends also survive.
Pallbearers included Randy Bond, David Davis, Billy Frazier, Ed Whitford, Donnie Christian, Randy Wakefield, Mark Hutchins, Jim Stapp, Jack Rhody, and Carlton Jones.
DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville, was in charge of arrangements.
